Calf pneumonia monitoring
Calf pneumonia causes inflammation to the lung tissue and airways and, in severe cases, this damage is irreversible, sometimes resulting in death. Even a mild case can impact productivity.
Observing calves for signs of ill-health is important.

To assist with monitoring, ear-mounted temperature measuring devices can be helpful. With a probe that sits in the external ear canal, the device features a red LED indicator light that allows real-time monitoring of calf temperatures. A raised temperature is the earliest sign of respiratory disease and the device, which measures temperatures every 15 minutes will flash when a fever has persisted for six hours. This means early intervention can take place, minimising the chances of significant damage taking place before treatment is instigated, improving the wellbeing of the calf.
